### Job Description – Upper Grades Chemistry Teacher

**Position:** Upper Grades Chemistry Teacher  
**Location:** Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia  
**Reporting To:** Head of Secondary (Line Manager)  
**Start Date:** August 2026

### 1\. The Institution & Role Context

Our South Campus is undergoing a significant **STEM-focused academic and pedagogical transformation**, supported by substantial investment in state-of-the-art science laboratories and learning infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified **Upper Grades Chemistry Teacher** who can leverage these facilities to deliver engaging, practical, and academically rigorous Chemistry instruction while driving strong student outcomes in external examinations.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening practical science education and embedding laboratory-based learning as an integral part of the Chemistry curriculum.

### Reporting & Collaboration Structure

The position reports directly to the **Head of Secondary**, who serves as the Line Manager and is responsible for day-to-day operations, performance management, and professional development.

The Chemistry Teacher will also work closely with:

-   **STEM Director:** Practical laboratory planning, scheduling, resource utilization, and STEM initiatives.
-   **Academic Director:** Curriculum alignment, academic standards, assessment expectations, and student attainment.

### 2\. Core Responsibilities

### Teaching & Laboratory Execution

-   Deliver high-quality **IGCSE and A-Level Chemistry** instruction aligned with the UK Curriculum and relevant examination board requirements.
-   Provide a strong and consistent emphasis on **hands-on laboratory learning**, ensuring practical experimentation is embedded throughout the curriculum.
-   Maximize the effective utilization of the school’s advanced laboratory facilities and resources.
-   Design engaging lessons that develop students’ scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and experimental skills.
-   Prepare students effectively for practical components of external examinations.

### Student Attainment & Academic Performance

-   Drive strong student performance and **pass rates in external board examinations**.
-   Monitor student attainment and progress using internal and external assessment data.
-   Identify learning gaps and implement targeted intervention and support strategies.
-   Contribute to measurable **value-added student progress** across the Upper Grades.
-   Maintain accurate records of student achievement, assessment, and academic progress.

### Laboratory Safety & Compliance

-   Maintain strict adherence to recognized **international laboratory health and safety standards and protocols**.
-   Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for the handling, storage, use, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory materials.
-   Conduct appropriate risk assessments before practical activities.
-   Promote a strong culture of laboratory safety among students and colleagues, with a commitment to **zero preventable safety incidents**.
-   Ensure laboratory activities comply with school policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

### Curriculum & Academic Collaboration

-   Collaborate with the Academic Director to ensure Chemistry curriculum delivery remains aligned with school standards and external examination requirements.
-   Coordinate with the STEM Director regarding laboratory schedules, practical requirements, equipment, and resources.
-   Participate actively in departmental planning, curriculum development, moderation, and academic review activities.
-   Contribute to wider STEM initiatives, enrichment activities, science competitions, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

### Qualifications

-   Bachelor’s Degree in **Chemistry or a closely related field** from a recognized institution.
-   Valid and recognized **teaching qualification or credential**.
-   **PGCE, QTS, or equivalent postgraduate teaching qualification** is preferred.
-   Recognized and up-to-date **laboratory safety certification**, such as **CLEAPSS or an internationally recognized equivalent**.
-   Strong knowledge of **laboratory safety protocols, risk assessments, chemical handling, storage, and disposal procedures**.
-   Strong subject-matter expertise in Chemistry.
-   Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
-   Strong commitment to **academic excellence, student-centered learning, and continuous professional development**.

### Experience

-   Minimum of **3 years of relevant teaching experience** in Upper Grades/Secondary Chemistry.
-   Proven experience teaching the **UK Curriculum**, particularly **IGCSE and/or A-Level Chemistry**.
-   Demonstrated experience in delivering **hands-on, laboratory-based Chemistry instruction**.
-   Proven track record of supporting strong **student attainment and external examination outcomes**.
-   Experience using assessment data to **monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted academic interventions**.
-   Strong **classroom management and student engagement** experience.
-   Experience working effectively within a **multicultural international school environment**.
-   Previous experience in academically rigorous **UK Curriculum schools in the UK, South Africa, or high-performing international schools within the MENA region** is preferred.
