## Description

Great design doesn't just make information look better. It makes the right information easier to understand, easier to navigate and, ideally, much harder to forget.

We’re looking for a **Brand Designer** who knows how to do exactly that.

Someone who can take an idea, a campaign, a presentation or a page of content and work out what really needs to land. Someone who can create visual structure, establish hierarchy and turn information into communication that feels clear, engaging and unmistakably on-brand.

You'll join the First Focus Marketing team in New Zealand, working across a genuinely broad mix of brand and marketing design. Think campaigns, presentations, reports, digital content, events, proposals, internal communications and all the other places a growing brand needs to show up looking like it knows what it's doing.

You'll know your way around Adobe Creative Cloud, PowerPoint and Word, and you'll be comfortable using generative AI to explore creative possibilities. But you'll also know that generating something interesting is only the beginning. The actual design work still requires judgement, craft and a human who knows what they're doing.

Conveniently, that's where you come in.

A bit about us

First Focus was founded in **2003** and has grown into one of Australia and New Zealand's leading managed technology service providers. We support mid-sized organisations across Australia and New Zealand, helping them manage, secure and get more from their technology.

We’ve built the business around smart people doing good work, collaborating properly and continuing to get better at what they do.

Our Marketing team works across the First Focus brand, supporting everything from campaigns and digital content to sales collateral, presentations, reports, events and internal communications.

Which means this role comes with variety.

Quite a lot of it, actually.

What you'll be designing

You’ll work collaboratively with our Marketing team and stakeholders across the business to turn ideas, briefs and content into clear, engaging and properly considered visual communication.

That could mean:

- Creating campaign and digital assets that make B2B marketing look considerably less B2B.
- Designing sales presentations and proposals that people can actually follow.
- Creating reports, ebooks, guides and other longer-form content.
- Producing social media and website graphics.
- Designing event collateral and supporting campaign creative.
- Creating polished internal communications and brand materials.
- Building and refining templates in PowerPoint and Word.
- Taking complex information and working out how to communicate it visually, rather than simply reducing the font size until everything technically fits.
- Working with stakeholders across Sales, Client Services, leadership and the wider business to understand what they are actually trying to communicate.
- Helping us keep the First Focus brand consistent, interesting and recognisably ours across a growing business.

In short, there will be rectangles. There will be typography. There will occasionally be someone asking whether we can “make it pop”.

You will survive.

## Requirements

About the AI bit

Yes, we want someone comfortable using generative AI.

No, we are not looking for someone whose entire design process is typing increasingly desperate prompts until something vaguely usable appears.

We’re interested in designers who can use AI intelligently to explore concepts, imagery and creative directions, then bring those ideas into **Adobe Creative Cloud and properly recreate, refine, adapt and expand them into polished, editable assets**.

AI should accelerate your creativity, not replace your design ability.

You should understand the difference between an interesting AI-generated concept and a finished piece of professional design, and have the craft to bridge that gap.

The specific AI tools you prefer matter much less to us than what you can actually do with the output.

What we're looking for

You’ll probably be a good fit if you have:

- A **strong portfolio** demonstrating excellent branding, typography, layout and visual communication. A portfolio is required with your application.
- Strong Adobe Creative Cloud skills and the ability to create polished, editable production assets.
- Strong **PowerPoint and Word design skills**. Yes, genuinely. They are important here.
- Experience designing for a **B2B audience**, with an understanding that professional does not have to mean beige, joyless or accompanied by an inexplicable photo of people shaking hands.
- The ability to take copy, content or an idea, identify what actually matters, simplify it and determine the best way to communicate it visually.
- Confidence working collaboratively from briefs and established brand direction.
- The ability to work with internal stakeholders, ask sensible questions and turn their ideas into something clearer than what arrived in the original brief.
- Comfort using generative AI as part of a modern creative workflow.
- Ideally, around **3+ years of experience in B2B graphic design**, although we care more about the quality of your work than whether your CV has reached an arbitrary birthday.

We’d **strongly prefer someone with in-house brand experience**.

Agency and freelance backgrounds can produce brilliant designers, but this role suits someone who understands what happens when you live with a brand over time. You learn its personality, its visual language, where you can push it, where you shouldn’t, and how to create variety without making every new campaign look like it belongs to an entirely different company.

No formal design qualification is required.

If your work is excellent, we’re not going to become suddenly fascinated by where you went to university.

Why First Focus?

This is an opportunity to join an established Marketing team and work across a genuinely broad range of creative projects.

You won't be designing for a revolving door of unrelated clients. You'll be working on **our brand**, learning it properly and helping us communicate more clearly and creatively as the business grows.

One of the First Focus values that matters particularly here is **Live Curiously**.

We like people who ask why, explore better ways of doing things and are willing to challenge the obvious solution when there’s a more interesting one available. That applies rather nicely to design, and probably explains why we don’t want someone whose response to every brief is “logo top-left?”

## Benefits

The good stuff

Alongside a **competitive salary package plus KiwiSaver**, you'll get:

- Hybrid working that supports genuine work-life balance.
- Free access to **Uprise**, including confidential 1:1 coaching with qualified psychologists and counsellors.
- Our **Never Stop Growing** commitment, including 10 paid training days each year and certification support (conditions apply).
- Regular internal learning sessions and access to an extensive learning library.
- Our **FastTrack mentoring program** to support your professional development.
- Employee and client referral bonuses.
- Regular social events and a genuinely supportive team culture.
- The chance to work with a Marketing team where good ideas are welcomed, collaboration is expected, and hopefully nobody asks you to use Comic Sans ironically. Or otherwise.

Interested?

Send us your CV and, importantly, **your portfolio**.

We want to see how you think visually, not just a list of software you've used.

Show us branding. Show us typography. Show us layouts. Show us how you’ve taken complicated information and made it simple. Show us work where B2B didn't mean boring.

And if you’ve found clever ways to combine AI-assisted exploration with actual design craft, we'd particularly like to see that too.

If you're a designer who cares about communication as much as decoration, enjoys working deeply within a brand, and thinks PowerPoint deserves better than what humanity has traditionally done to it, we'd like to hear from you.
