## Description

**Super Load Dispatcher and Permit Specialist** is an expert logistics professional responsible for coordinating the transport of cargo that exceeds standard legal size and weight limits. This role combines high-level dispatching with technical permit acquisition and route planning to ensure the safe, legal, and efficient movement of critical infrastructure and industrial equipment.

The Super Load Dispatcher and Permit Specialist serves as the central hub for the company's heavy haul operations. You will be responsible for planning intricate routes, securing complex multi-state "super load" permits, and providing real-time guidance to drivers and field teams. This position requires a deep understanding of evolving state and local regulations to minimize delays and protect infrastructure integrity.

**Core Responsibilities**

- **Permit Acquisition & Management**:

- Administer all special hauling permit types, including "super load" security and administrative messages.
- Review permits for accuracy, route restrictions, and compliance with federal and state laws.
- Act as a primary liaison between the company, state agencies (like [PennDOT](https://careers.employment.pa.gov/pd/PD_NEOGOV.asp?p=00010933)), law enforcement, and utility companies.

- **Technical Route Planning**:

- Compute overall loaded dimensions (height, width, length, and gross weight) to determine permit requirements.
- Read and interpret state highway maps and use automated routing systems (e.g., APRAS) to plot safe paths around infrastructure hurdles like bridges or low-clearance areas.

- **Dispatch & Fleet Coordination**:

- Schedule and dispatch heavy-haul trucks and specialized trailers to meet project-specific timelines.
- Maintain constant communication with drivers to provide special instructions for over-dimensional (OD) loads.
- Monitor load progress via GPS and adjust routes in real-time to account for weather or road closures.

- **Compliance & Record-Keeping**:

- Ensure all movements adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA safety regulations.
- Maintain meticulous records of permit costs, dispatch logs, and driver hours.

## Requirements

- **Experience**: 2–5 years of administrative experience in trucking, specifically with **oversize/overweight (OSOW) permitting**. Extensive experience in heavy haul dispatching is highly preferred.
- **Technical Knowledge**: Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), GPS tracking software (e.g., Samsara), and state-specific permit routing software.
- **Critical Thinking**: Strong analytical skills to solve complex logistical puzzles and make quick decisions under pressure.
- **Communication**: Exceptional written and verbal skills for negotiating timelines with government officials and relaying critical safety data to field units.
- **Education**: High school diploma or GED is required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or Transportation is often preferred for senior roles.

## Benefits

- **Base Salary**: **$55,000 to $100,000**.
- **Typical Benefits**:

- Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.
- 401(k) retirement plans with company matching.
- Paid Time Off (PTO) and potential for performance-based bonuses.
