## Description

We’re looking for a Senior Cloud Database Administrator with deep hands on expertise in MySQL, InnoDB, AWS RDS, and Amazon Aurora MySQL to join a sprint based Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE) team.

This is not a traditional ticket driven DBA role. You’ll help evolve database operations into a reliability first, automation driven, self service platform, independently troubleshooting complex production issues, executing recovery under pressure, and automating manual work.

**Key Responsibilities**

- Administer and optimize MySQL/InnoDB databases on AWS RDS and Aurora MySQL, including provisioning, scaling, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning
- Troubleshoot complex production issues such as slow queries, replication lag, locking, deadlocks, and resource contention
- Tune performance through execution plan analysis, query and index optimization, and InnoDB configuration
- Design and maintain backup, restore, PITR, and disaster recovery procedures that meet defined RTOs and RPOs
- Support high availability using Aurora clusters, Multi AZ, read replicas, and automated failover
- Monitor health, performance, and capacity using CloudWatch and Performance Insights/Database Insights, and recommend right sizing
- Automate DBA operations and build self service capabilities using Python, Bash, SQL, AWS CLI, and Infrastructure as Code where applicable
- Implement secure, least privilege configurations (IAM, encryption, credential management) and support audits and compliance
- Participate in on call and incident response, including root cause analysis
- Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum team and maintain runbooks, documentation, and database standards

## Requirements

- 10+ years of experience in Database Administration, Database Engineering, or Database Reliability Engineering
- Extensive hands on MySQL experience with deep knowledge of InnoDB internals (transactions, locking, deadlocks, buffer pool, redo/undo logs, crash recovery)
- Strong hands on experience administering MySQL on AWS RDS and/or Aurora MySQL
- Proven performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting skills
- Strong experience with backups, restores, PITR, disaster recovery, and high availability (Multi AZ, read replicas, Aurora failover)
- Hands on experience with CloudWatch and Performance Insights/Database Insights
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, SQL, AWS CLI, or similar)
- Solid understanding of AWS security (IAM, encryption, access controls)
- Experience in Agile teams, with strong communication and documentation skills
- **Preferred:** Terraform or CloudFormation; AWS Lambda, Systems Manager, or EventBridge; PostgreSQL; Kubernetes/EKS; CI/CD; regulated environments; AWS cost optimization; building self service database platforms
