## Description

**Live where others holiday.** A rare opportunity to step into a senior consultant role at a principal teaching and referral hospital on one of NSW's most sought-after coastal strips — 90 minutes north of Sydney and surrounded by more than 40 patrolled beaches, two national parks and the tranquil waterways of Brisbane Water.

### About the Location

The catchment is a thriving coastal region of around 350,000 people — the third largest urban area in NSW — with a rare combination of tertiary-level clinical complexity and a genuine coastal lifestyle. Direct rail links to Sydney Central make it a practical base for consultants who want to keep Sydney ties without the Sydney commute. Families are drawn here for the schools, house prices well below Sydney metro, and weekends split between the surf at Terrigal and Avoca, bushwalking in Bouddi National Park, and kayaking on Brisbane Water.

### About the Service

You'll join the flagship mental health service of a Local Health District that employs more than 5,500 FTE across two acute hospitals, two sub-acute sites and eight community health centres. The Mental Health Directorate is a mature, multidisciplinary service offering the full continuum of care:

- **35-bed General Adult Acute Inpatient Unit** at the principal referral site
- **Mental Health Assessment Team** embedded in the Emergency Department
- **Consultation Liaison Psychiatry** across the acute hospital
- **Adult Mental Health Acute Care Team** — assessment, acute follow-up and post-discharge transition
- **Community teams** — Continuing Care, Psychotherapy and Assertive Outreach
- **Specialist Mental Health Service for Older Persons (SMHSOP)** for complex over-65s
- **Children and Young People's Mental Health Service** — CAMHS, Early Psychosis (YPPI 14–24), COPMI and headspace partnerships

The service sits alongside a co-located **Research and Innovation Centre** with active University of Newcastle affiliation, offering strong teaching, research and academic pathways for consultants who want them.

### The Role

- Provide expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and management across the inpatient unit and/or community/CL streams (specific portfolio negotiable to your subspecialty interest)
- Participate in the consultant on-call roster
- Supervise and support psychiatry registrars, JMOs and multidisciplinary team members
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, teaching and research

- Current (or eligibility for) specialist registration with AHPRA in Psychiatry
- Demonstrated clinical experience in adult psychiatry across acute inpatient and/or community settings
- Working with Children Check (NSW) and National Police Check
- Compliance with NSW Health immunisation and vaccination requirements

### What's on Offer

- Remuneration under the **NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award** — Level 1–5 depending on post-fellowship experience
- Generous **salary packaging** — up to $9,010 tax-free for living expenses plus $2,650 for meals & entertainment
