We are looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist to join our Leeds team, you will share our purpose and desire to make a positive difference to the world around you.

## Requirements

As a **Senior Engineer** in our Earth and Geoconsultancy team your responsibilities will include:

-   Management and mentoring of project teams consisting of engineers of varying grades from Graduate through to Senior Engineer.
-   Contributing to or leading on a number of projects (or parts of projects) with commitment to meeting or exceeding (internal and external) expectations in terms of quality and agreed timescales. This will require client, collaborator and stakeholder engagement, relationship management, appropriate allocation and management of resource and coordination of processes in accordance with Civic Earth’s QMS and IMS.
-   You will assist in the development of Graduates and Engineers and will highlight to your Line Manager where you feel there are requirements for training, new or additional equipment or software licences, or additional team members.
-   You will monitor project profitability with a view to delivering projects within agreed budgets and timescales and will highlight to the Project Director or Manager where you feel that there may need to be changes to the Billing or Resource Plans.
-   In a client facing role you will be expected to maintain and enhance Civic Earth’s reputation and contribute to the securing of repeat business as well as identifying new opportunities and input into bids for new projects as required.

**Day-to-day task and expectations**

_**Technical**_

-   Supervising the technical design being undertaken by others.
-   Undertaking technical design, writing of reports such desk studies/feasibility assessments, geotechnical and geoenvironmental interpretative reports and geotechnical/geoenvironmental design reports
-   Specifying and supervising site investigation works
-   Provide site investigation specifications for subconsultants and subcontractors
-   Use of industry standard analysis software including OpenGround and QGIS, experience of slope stability analysis and ground movement analysis software is sought after
-   Sharing of knowledge and expertise with your team and across the wider practice.
-   Undertaking technical reviews/checks on projects (or parts of projects) that you and/or your team are responsible for delivering.
-   Identifying opportunities to innovate in our processes, products and services to ensure continuous improvement.
-   Preparation of and undertaking presentations to clients, collaborators and other stakeholders.
-   Compliance with the duties of Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015
-   Compliance with the practice QMS, including self-checking

_**Managerial**_

-   Taking responsibility and ownership of projects, understanding outputs required, deadlines, consultation requirements, liaising with the project team, managing client expectations, and feeding any matters arising back to senior team
-   Managing workload of other engineers/staff members on projects that you are responsible for.
-   Regular direct telephone and email contact with clients and collaborators
-   Attending and contributing to meetings under the direction of a Project Manager/Project Director or as the sole representative of Civic Earth
-   Managing, mentoring and developing junior members of the team
-   Business development to include participating in networking events, contributing to writing bids and fee proposals etc.
-    Project financial and commercial awareness

Qualifications** 

-   A degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Civil/Geotechnical engineering, or similar
-   Chartered or working towards Chartership with the ICE, GeolSoc or IES
-   Strong relevant design experience in a commercial environment

**Competencies**

-   A detailed understanding of industry processes including those for planning applications, procurement and technical approvals.
-   Experience in the use of industry software such Civil 3D and AutoCAD, Bentley Open Ground (or similar logging software) and geotechnical modelling software (e.g. PDISP, WALLAP, PLAXIS etc.  Excellent communication skills- person to person, written and graphical.
-   Excellent report writing skills
-   Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
-   High level of competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel and Word)
-   Commercial awareness
-   Excellent team working capabilities
-   Excellent time management of self and others
