## Description

**UK | Remote | Full Time**

**£35-40k per annum + excellent benefits**

We're looking to add our first hire to a current standalone HR function. You'll work closely with the Director of HR & Operations, taking ownership of day-to-day People Operations while bringing your own ideas and experience to the team. While the role is remote, you'll have opportunities for in-person office days together, a great way to build a strong working relationship, and getting hands-on support.

As the role develops, you'll help shape the future of HR at Newton Media, improving how we support our people and managers, developing our systems and processes, championing employee wellbeing, and getting involved in wider People projects, including smarter use of technology and AI.

If you're looking for a role where you can learn, grow and make your mark, we'd love to hear from you.

**About Newton Media**

Newton Media is a specialist B2B publishing and events business serving professional communities across the insurance, intellectual property and life sciences sectors.

We're a fully remote business with colleagues across the UK and internationally. We care about doing great work, treating people well, and building a culture where people feel supported, trusted and able to develop.

Our values: Always Be Friendly (we only employ nice people), Be Entrepreneurial, Embrace Resilience, Do Good, Demonstrate Integrity Always, and Develop Deep Expertise, shape how we work.

Benefits include unlimited holiday, income protection insurance, death in service insurance, flexible working, birthday leave, enhanced family leave, a Health Shield cash plan, counselling and EAP support, and more.

### What you'll be doing

No two days in People Operations look quite the same, but your role will include:

- Acting as a friendly, approachable first point of contact for day-to-day employee and manager HR queries
- Coordinating the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through probation, development and offboarding
- Managing recruitment activity through our applicant tracking system, Workable: hiring approval, adverts, candidate communication and interview coordination
- Becoming a super user of our HR system, HiBob, keeping people data accurate and helping us get more from the system
- Preparing contracts, letters and other employee documentation
- Advising managers on routine people matters including probation, absence, performance, family leave and flexible working
- Handling employee relations processes and escalating more complex matters appropriately
- Coordinating HR changes with Finance for monthly payroll
- Administering and communicating our employee benefits
- Helping deliver our wellbeing and engagement initiatives, and promoting the support available to our people
- Producing HR reports and people metrics that help us understand what's happening across the business
- Supporting performance reviews, manager development and other People projects
- Looking for ways to make our HR processes simpler and smarter, including through automation and AI

We're looking for someone who combines good HR judgement with genuine empathy and an interest in employee experience. If you're already a Mental Health First Aider or Champion, even better.

## Requirements

### **Who we're looking for**

You don't need to know everything. We're looking for someone with strong HR foundations who's keen to develop and comfortable taking on increasing responsibility.

Ideally, you'll have:

- Around 2–3 years' experience in HR, People Operations or a similar role
- A good understanding of the employee lifecycle and UK HR practices
- Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding and general HR administration
- Some experience providing HR guidance to employees or managers
- Experience using an HRIS - HiBob would be a real advantage
- Experience using an ATS such as Workable would also be beneficial
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence using systems and technology
- The judgement to know when you can handle something yourself and when to ask for support

A CIPD qualification (Level 3 or 5), or progress towards one, would be an advantage, but we're just as interested in what you've learned through practical experience. Most importantly, you'll be friendly, curious, organised, trustworthy, empathetic and interested in people.

### **What you'll get from the role**

You'll work directly with our Director of HR & Operations and gain exposure to a broad range of HR activity; employee relations, organisational development, manager capability, wellbeing, people analytics, HR technology and strategic people initiatives. As your confidence and experience grow, so will your ownership, helping you build the practical judgement that turns HR knowledge into a career.

We're ambitious about our business, and just as ambitious about building a workplace people enjoy working in. You'll join a friendly, supportive and collaborative team, with real scope to contribute ideas and shape the employee experience.

If this sounds like your next step in HR, we'd love to hear from you. Click apply and answer just a few quick questions to help us get your application to the right place, it shouldn't take more than a minute!
