### **Orthopedic Surgeon – Sports Medicine**

### **Position Summary**

The Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions related to sports, physical activity, and overuse. This role focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of athletic and activity-related injuries, with an emphasis on restoring function, mobility, and performance.

### **Key Responsibilities**

-   Evaluate and treat sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries
-   Perform orthopedic surgical procedures within the scope of sports medicine training
-   Manage injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle
-   Provide non-operative care including injections, bracing, rehabilitation planning, and physical therapy coordination
-   Diagnose acute injuries and manage chronic degenerative or overuse conditions
-   Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results
-   Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans
-   Participate in call coverage and orthopedic consults as required
-   Collaborate with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals
-   Educate patients on injury prevention, treatment options, and recovery timelines
-   Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation
-   Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

### **Practice Setting**

-   Outpatient clinic and surgical settings
-   Hospital-based and ambulatory surgical environments
-   May include elective and urgent orthopedic care

### **Qualifications**

-   MD or DO from an accredited medical school
-   Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency
-   Fellowship training in Sports Medicine
-   Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
-   Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state
-   DEA registration or eligibility
