Its products currently run on customer servers; this role designs and builds the company's first cloud-hosted offering from the ground up, from collecting manufacturing data at customer sites to the reporting customers use. The role offers a greenfield product to own end-to-end, with the autonomy to make the architectural calls that shape it. 💻 **Who You Are** - An architect who understands the full pipeline, from data collection at the source to customer-facing reporting, and how each part affects the others - Someone who stays hands-on, building and deploying what they design rather than handing it off - A self-starter who takes ownership in a small division where one person carries broad responsibility - Comfortable making sound decisions before every requirement is fully defined - A clear technical communicator who turns requirements into designs an engineering team can build 📍 **Work Type** - **Location:** Oakville, ON (Hybrid, 2 days per week) - **Vacancy Type:** This role is a newly created position ## Requirements 🎯 **What You'll Do ** - Design the architecture for a new multi-tenant SaaS product, from data ingestion at customer sites through cloud-hosted services to customer-facing reporting - Build, deploy, and maintain the cloud infrastructure and backend components hands-on while the engineering team is hired - Design data pipelines that move operational data from on-premises manufacturing environments into the cloud reliably and securely - Define patterns for multi-tenancy, customer data isolation, scalability, and security - Evaluate cloud platforms and technology options, recommending where to start small and how to scale based on cost and long-term maintainability - Learn how the company's existing on-premises product works and carry that knowledge into a lighter cloud offering - Deliver a starting proposal for the platform and the roles needed to build it within the first three months - Stand up CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, and monitoring for the new platform - Work with a small group of early customers to identify what the product needs first ⭐ **What We're Looking For ** - **5+ years** of experience as a cloud or solutions architect, designing systems and making the platform and technology calls behind them - Experience designing and building cloud systems end to end, not just contributing to a single layer - Experience with more than one major cloud platform, such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud - Experience building systems that ingest and process high volumes of operational data - Significant experience designing and deploying databases at scale, including schema design, query performance, and storage trade-offs - Strong grasp of distributed systems: data flow, service boundaries, failure modes, and resilience patterns - Experience integrating cloud platforms with on-premises or operationally constrained environments - Familiarity with SaaS patterns such as multi-tenancy, customer data isolation, and subscription-based delivery - Experience producing cost analyses and platform recommendations that balance a small start against future growth **Nice to have:** - Experience in industrial, IoT or manufacturing environments - Experience with **.NET** and SQL Server - Experience building or anchoring a new engineering team 🔥 **What Makes This Role Exciting ** - **Architect and Builder:** A role for someone who wants to design a platform and write the code behind it, rather than choose between the two - **Build the Team:** You'll have direct input on which roles are hired next, and in what order, as a new product team takes shape - **Customer Input:** Early anchor customers help decide what the product delivers first, giving the design a direct line to real users - **Clear Direction:** Business requirements and an MVP target are already defined, so the work starts with a destination - **Long-Term Pipeline:** Further cloud initiatives are planned after this first product, with more architecture work to follow ## Benefits - **Base Salary:** $165,000 – $195,000 - **Paid Time Off:** Competitive vacation and personal days to maintain a healthy work-life balance - **Health Benefits:** Medical and dental benefits with fully employer-paid premiums to support your overall well-being - **RRSP Matching:** Employer contributions to a group RRSP program, supporting your long-term financial security 📩 **Ready to Architect and Build a Cloud Platform from the Ground Up?
