## Description

About Panorama

Panorama Education is a technology company building the leading platform for student insight and action in K-12. We help modern school systems understand what students need and take effective action. By bringing together academics, attendance, behavior, and engagement data with AI, we give educators the full picture of every student and the intelligence to decide what to do next. As a mission-driven company supporting 15 million students in 2,000 districts nationwide, the work we do has a direct line to student outcomes every day. Join us and help shape what education looks like for the next generation.

### About the Role

As the Senior Engineering Manager for Platform, you'll lead the team behind the foundational capabilities that power Panorama's products: shared services, core infrastructure, developer tooling, and operational standards. You'll own how the team builds, delivers, and operates that foundation, and you'll grow the engineers who do the work.

This role pairs closely with the Lead Product Manager, Platform to set direction and deliver on it. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you'll manage a team of senior and staff engineers. Your job is to keep the platform solid as Panorama grows, so teams can build on it quickly and securely without inheriting debt down the line. As Panorama invests more heavily in AI across the product and internally, the platform is what makes that work durable and safe to run at scale.

This is a team with real technical strength and a wide, growing surface area, which gives this role real room to shape how the team scales. You'll partner closely with a newly-arriving Lead Product Manager to build the roadmap and working cadence together from day one, and help translate Panorama's growing investment in AI into practices the team can rely on.

## Requirements

### What You'll Do

Lead the team. Build and grow a team of senior and staff-level platform engineers. Set a high bar, give direct feedback, and hold people to clear expectations while keeping the team moving fast.

Guide technical direction. Partner with staff engineers on architecture and tradeoffs across infrastructure, shared services, and system design, including the infrastructure that AI-powered capabilities depend on. Keep the team on the highest-leverage work and unblock complex execution.

Own delivery and platform health. Ship platform initiatives reliably from planning through production. Define what platform health means and drive the work that gets there: performance, resiliency, cost efficiency, and operational maturity. Build strong on-call and incident practices with SRE, and triage reactive work without losing the strategic thread.

Support AI workloads. Partner with the AI platform and security teams so that AI-powered capabilities run on infrastructure that is observable, cost-aware, and secure. Bring the same operational standards to this work that you bring to everything else the platform carries. You’ll also help the team engage with AI-assisted development itself, bringing real, thoughtful adoption of new tools and workflows.

Partner with product. Shape the roadmap with the Lead Product Manager and turn strategy into buildable plans. Bring engineer-identified pain points, system health signals, and technical risk into prioritization, and turn them into resourced, well-scoped work.

Lead across functions. Represent platform engineering across teams. Drive alignment on multi-team initiatives, and give leadership honest updates on progress, risk, and the reasoning behind technical investment.

Keep security at the forefront. Partner with security and legal, so platform capabilities support Panorama's security, privacy, and compliance obligations, with student data central to every decision.

### What We're Looking For

- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineers, ideally on platform, infrastructure, or developer experience teams.
- A track record of managing and growing senior and staff-level ICs, with a style rooted in clarity, trust, and example rather than formal authority.
- Technical credibility: hands-on and credible enough to earn trust fast with senior and staff engineers, with the technical taste to know which corners are fine to cut and which would create real technical debt.  Hands-on AWS background strongly preferred; Terraform and Kubernetes a significant plus.
- Proven success partnering with a product counterpart to deliver on a shared roadmap, and building alignment across engineering, security, and operations.
- Delivery and scope discipline: ships reliably, defines completion criteria, and resists scope creep in technically driven environments.
- Developer experience focus: improves developer productivity through CI/CD, internal tooling, and self-service infrastructure, and can tie that to shipping velocity, incident reduction, and retention.
- Experience with security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and FERPA, and a strong command of data protection and privacy practices.
- Experience with monitoring and observability at scale.
- Familiarity with the infrastructure demands of AI workloads, and sound judgment about how AI changes what a platform team needs to support and monitor. Experience helping engineering teams adopt AI-assisted tools and workflows in practice.
- Education: a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
