## Description

Fancy being the kind of HR person people are actually pleased to see?

We're looking for a People Officer to join our People team and become one of the people who keeps HR at Atom running brilliantly.

A big part of your job will be getting the HR admin right: keeping records tidy, contracts and letters moving, making sure people processes happen when they should, and generally making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

But we're also looking for someone who wants to step up.

You'll already have a good grounding in HR administration and have started to take on more – perhaps answering managers' questions, helping with employee issues, supporting training, explaining HR processes or taking ownership of things that are slightly outside the usual admin box.

### A bit about us

We don't really do corporate HR-speak here.

We're a growing, fast-moving business and we don't always take the traditional HR route. We trust people to use their judgement, we like people who ask "could we do this better?" rather than "what does the policy say?", and we're comfortable taking a sensible amount of risk when it's the right thing for the business and our people.

That means this role will suit someone who likes thinking for themselves.

If your instinct is always to reach for the policy before having a conversation with the person in front of you, we probably won't be a great match.

If your instinct is to understand what's going on, work out what's sensible and then figure out how we can make it work – we might be your people.

### What you'll be doing

Keeping the People engine running

- Looking after the day-to-day HR administration across the employee lifecycle
- Preparing contracts, letters, changes to terms and other people documentation
- Keeping employee records and our HR systems accurate and up to date
- Supporting onboarding and offboarding
- Helping keep our HR processes organised, timely and accurate
- Producing reports and information when we need to understand what's happening with our people
- Being the person who notices when something hasn't been done and makes sure it gets sorted

Helping managers and employees

- Being a friendly first point of contact for everyday people questions
- Helping managers understand and navigate our people processes
- Providing basic HR guidance and knowing when something needs to be escalated
- Supporting managers with things like absence, performance conversations and general people issues
- Signposting managers to the right information rather than simply pointing them towards a policy and walking away

Helping people get better

- Supporting the delivery of training and people initiatives
- Helping managers understand how to use our people tools and processes
- Helping create simple guidance that people can actually understand and use
- Spotting things that aren't working particularly well and suggesting a better way of doing them

And, importantly, growing yourself!

## Requirements

You'll probably have around 2–3 years' experience in HR, although we're much more interested in what you've actually done than the number of years you've been doing it.

We're looking for someone who:

- Is genuinely organised and enjoys getting the detail right
- Has good HR administration experience and isn't afraid of a spreadsheet, system or a pile of paperwork
- Is confident talking to managers and employees
- Can give straightforward, sensible advice on everyday people questions
- Has good judgement and knows when to ask for help or escalate something
- Is comfortable explaining things to others and would enjoy supporting or delivering basic training
- Likes solving problems rather than automatically following a process
- Is curious and naturally looks for ways to make things easier
- Can juggle lots of little things without losing sight of the important ones
- Has the confidence to say, "I'm not sure – let me find out" rather than making something up
- Is keen to develop their HR career and grow into a more advisory role

CIPD Level 3, or working towards it, would be great. CIPD isn't a dealbreaker if you've got the right experience and attitude.

**This role is mainly office based: Our current working pattern is 3-4 days in the Tonbridge Office.**
