## Description

The Calhoun School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Varsity Tennis Assistant Coach for the Fall 2026 season. This is an exciting opportunity to work with motivated high school student-athletes while supporting an established varsity tennis program alongside a returning Head Coach who knows the school community and student-athletes well. We are looking for a coach who is passionate about tennis, enjoys mentoring young athletes, and is eager to contribute to a positive and competitive team environment. The ideal candidate will have strong tennis knowledge, the ability to facilitate engaging practices and drills, and a commitment to helping players of varying skill levels develop both on and off the court.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach with planning and running daily practices

• Lead drills and skill-development sessions for players of varying experience levels

• Teach tennis fundamentals, match strategy, and sportsmanship

• Support players' athletic, personal, and leadership development

• Help foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture

• Assist with match-day preparation, lineup management, and athlete supervision

• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes

• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and athletic department staff

Qualifications

• Previous tennis playing experience required

• Tennis coaching experience preferred

• Experience working with high school-aged students (14–17 years old) is a plus

• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

• Ability to connect with and motivate student-athletes

• Reliable, proactive, and team-oriented

• Commitment to the full season schedule

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with teenagers and understands that coaching is about more than teaching technical skills. They are enthusiastic about building relationships with student-athletes, creating a positive and supportive team culture, and helping players develop confidence, resilience, and a love for the game. This coach should be comfortable taking initiative, leading drills independently, and proactively supporting the Head Coach throughout the season. Successful candidates will bring positive energy, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset to the program while helping athletes of all skill levels continue to improve and compete.
