## Description

**A secondary English teacher is responsible for teaching English language and literature, developing students’ communication skills, and preparing them for exams while fostering critical thinking and a love of learning.**

**Core Teaching Responsibilities**

Secondary English teachers teach students aged 11–16 (Key Stages 3 and 4), covering grammar, writing, reading comprehension, and literature analysis. They **plan and deliver lessons** aligned with the national curriculum, ensuring each class has clear objectives and a balance of instruction, demonstration, and practice. Teachers also **adapt teaching methods and materials** to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students, encouraging interactive and engaging learning experiences

**Assessment and Student Support**

Teachers **create, assign, and grade homework, tests, and projects**, monitoring student progress throughout the academic year. They **prepare students for standardized exams**, such as GCSEs, and provide extra support to help students reach their potential. Periodic progress reports and parent-teacher meetings are part of their duties to communicate student performance and development

**Classroom Management and Environment**

Maintaining a **safe, orderly, and productive classroom** is essential. Teachers supervise students, enforce discipline, and foster a positive learning environment. They also ensure classrooms are well-organized and equipped with necessary resources for lectures, presentations, and activities

**Collaboration and Professional Development**

Secondary English teachers **work closely with colleagues, teaching assistants, school administrators, and parents** to coordinate lessons, share best practices, and support school goals.
