## Description

The Spectator is Britain’s most influential weekly magazine, reaching more than two million people each week through our digital platforms. With nearly 200 years of heritage and a rapidly growing YouTube and podcast offering, we are at the forefront of political commentary and cultural debate.

We are looking for a Broadcast Producer to provide fixed-term maternity cover in our broadcast team. You will help create agenda-setting video and audio content that complements the unique voice of the world’s oldest weekly magazine. You will work across our suite of podcasts – including Quite Right!, Coffee House Shots, Americano and Reality Check – and help maintain and grow our YouTube channel of 500,000 subscribers.

The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day production of The Spectator’s established broadcast output. This will include generating ideas for podcasts and video, booking interesting guests and writing incisive questions to brief hosts. You will work closely with our technical team during recordings to ensure the highest editorial standards are upheld before packaging and releasing content for maximum impact.

You will have a proven track record in the end-to-end production of political and news content and a keen understanding of the stories driving the day in Westminster and beyond. You will also be an advanced user of Adobe Premiere Pro and adept in your chosen digital audio workstation – Adobe Audition, Logic or Hindenburg Journalist. You will understand video formats and platform requirements and be able to write accurate, clean and engaging copy. You will be digitally literate, adaptable and aware of emerging social media trends. Most importantly, you will enjoy working in a busy office environment where no two days are the same. This is a fixed-term maternity cover position.

**Key responsibilities:**

- End-to-end production of The Spectator’s broadcast output.
- Commissioning agenda-setting conversations, briefing journalists and writing incisive questions before packaging and releasing content to ensure maximum impact.
- Talent management – the ability to build strong working relationships with our journalists and deliver clear, constructive feedback.
- A strong understanding of the podcast and YouTube landscape, with ideas for improving the reach and quality of our broadcast output.
- Working closely with The Spectator’s social media, events and commercial teams to support their objectives

## Requirements

- Proven experience in end-to-end production, specifically in news and politics.
- Excellent and demonstrable knowledge of news and current affairs, and a willingness to build your own network of political and cultural stakeholders for the benefit of our podcasts.
- Creative storytelling abilities, with a good eye for visual narrative and composition, as well as an excellent working knowledge of Premiere Pro and a chosen DAW.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to work quickly under pressure, meet tight deadlines and demonstrate a grasp of media law.
