## Description

**Join Us at a Defining Moment**

At Intelligen, we're building something different. Over the past three years, we've evolved from a bold startup to a trusted partner for some of Australia's most complex data transformations. We've helped organisations move from legacy to modern platforms, embedded governance into decision-making, and brought AI into the hands of the business responsibly and at speed.

As we continue to grow, we're expanding our Melbourne and South Australian team and looking for experienced consultants who enjoy solving complex data challenges and delivering meaningful outcomes for clients.

We're seeking a Senior Data Engineering Consultant to help deliver large-scale data capability uplift programs across essential utilities and complex, asset-heavy environments. This role offers the opportunity to work on platform modernization, data product development, governance uplift, and engineering transformation initiatives that have lasting organizational impact.

**About the Role**

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineering Consultant who can design, build, and optimise modern data platforms while working closely with stakeholders across business and technology teams.

You will play a key role in delivering enterprise data initiatives focused on stabilising core platforms, improving delivery practices, and enabling trusted data products. You will contribute across architecture, engineering, delivery, and stakeholder engagement activities while helping organisations build stronger data capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical delivery, working directly with clients, and helping teams adopt modern engineering practices.

**What You'll Do**

- Design and build scalable data pipelines, integrations, and transformation frameworks
- Develop and maintain cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures
- Implement data models, engineering standards, and reusable patterns that improve delivery quality
- Support the development of data products and associated governance processes
- Collaborate with architects, analysts, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver valuable outcomes
- Contribute to platform stabilisation initiatives by improving reliability, performance, and operational support practices
- Support data quality, metadata, and documentation activities
- Participate in solution design workshops and technical planning activities
- Mentor junior consultants and contribute to capability development across delivery teams
- Help identify opportunities for continuous improvement across technology, processes, and ways of working

**Core Principles for This Role**

1. _Ownership_: Taking responsibility for outcomes and following through on commitments.
2. _Engineering_ Excellence: Building scalable, maintainable, and reliable solutions that stand the test of time.
3. _Continuous Improvement_: Looking for better ways to work, deliver, and create value.
4. _Collaboration_: Working effectively across business and technical teams to solve meaningful problems.
5. _Value Focus_: Understanding that great technology only matters when it creates measurable business outcomes.

## Requirements

**What We're Looking For**

- 6+ years' experience in data engineering, or data platform delivery
- Strong SQL development and data modelling capability
- Proven expertise in the Microsoft data ecosystem, including Azure, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience building data pipelines using modern engineering tools and frameworks
- Understanding of software engineering practices including version control, testing, CI/CD, and automation
- Experience working directly with stakeholders in consulting or project delivery environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- A mindset focused on delivery excellence, continuous learning, and collaboration

**Nice to Have**

- Experience with dbt, Coalesce, Airflow, or similar modern data tooling
- Exposure to data governance, metadata management, or data quality frameworks
- Experience working within critical infrastructure, utilities, energy, or regulated industries
