## Description

Activ Surgical is building a platform for introducing the latest sensing technology to minimally invasive surgery, intended to visualize the invisible to facilitate better surgical decisions and outcomes. As part of the R&D team, you will be responsible for prototyping and designing novel mechanical systems and enclosures for real-time minimally invasive medical imaging and sensing devices, taking concepts from early prototypes through to commercial-grade, manufacturable products. You will be expected to bring a creative, detail-oriented, and dedicated approach to solving complex mechanical design challenges, stay current on the most pressing clinical and manufacturing constraints, and effectively communicate your designs with the broader cross-functional team.

## Requirements

**Required Qualifications**

-   BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
-   Hands-on experience designing mechanical systems, enclosures, or housings for electro-optical or medical devices
-   Experience taking designs from concept through rapid prototyping to commercial-grade, manufacturable products
-   Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) for 3D modeling, tolerancing, and drawing generation
-   Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and rapidly prototype novel mechanical solutions using techniques such as 3D printing, machining, and sheet metal fabrication
-   Strong understanding of GD&T, DFM/DFA principles, and materials selection
-   Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate closely with a cross-functional team (electrical, optical, software, and clinical stakeholders)

**Preferred Qualifications**

-   Experience designing mechanical systems for medical devices, including familiarity with regulatory and design-control requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485)
-   Experience with precision optomechanical assemblies or camera/sensor housing
-   Background in thermal management, sealing/ingress protection, or sterilization-compatible design
-   Experience supporting design verification and validation (V&V) testing
-   Familiarity with supply chain and vendor management for prototype and production builds
