## Description

This position receives technical guidance and administrative direction from the Piping Manager. Develops designs for complex mechanical and piping systems by performing a variety of design tasks on project(s) under the supervision of a Project Manager, Engineering Team (VOGT) also function as a Discipline Lead on projects. Applies standard design techniques and criteria.

Collaborates with other design professionals. Prepares and modifies reports, specifications, work plans, and design schedules, isometrics, arrangements, and orthographic drawings for projects according to scope of work. Industries served include refineries, chemical plants, utility plants, and food or pharmaceutical processing facilities.

**Essential Responsibilities:**

-   Prepares complete design packages for multi-discipline projects that meet project goals.
-   Prepares drawings using Engineering Scope of Work and/or information gathered from client, Project Manager, Project Engineer, and other disciplines.
-   Analyzes assignments with respect to project goals and selects best design option.
-   Assists with the review of as-sold estimate and the as-designed product.
-   Coordinates any required field trips and Project Management to gather field information for project team.
-   Field verifies own designs as needed.
-   Contacts clients if needed to obtain information or resolve design issues.
-   Represents discipline on assigned project teams as the Discipline Lead for projects of varying complexity.
-   Creates plan of execution identifying the sequence of tasks, dependencies of information from others, staffing requirements and skill levels for discipline’s scope of work. Works within project team to integrate discipline plan into a multi-discipline project plan of execution. Monitors and reports progress against plan.
-   Informs Engineering and Project Management of pertinent issues and trends.
-   Routinely delegates tasks to others and monitors work for quality and schedule.
-   Follows established discipline execution plan and schedule to assure quality. Checks designs for completeness against project Scope of Work.
-   Provides timely comments on coordination documents as requested by others.
-   Initiates and controls coordination efforts for areas of technical responsibility on projects. Resolves coordination conflicts effectively, negotiating win-win solutions to multi-discipline project design issues.
-   Coordinates/consolidates comments on vendor prints from other disciplines, resolving conflicts.

## Requirements

**Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:**

-   Bachelor of Science in an engineering related field with an emphasis on statics, dynamics, and/or stress analysis is strongly preferred.
-   Five (5) years similar piping design experience with a relevant college/university degree.
-   In lieu of an engineering degree (10) years plus of similar piping design experience would be considered.
-   Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
-   Demonstrated excellent analytical and computer skills required
-   Ability to clearly communicate with English speaking co-workers
-   Familiarity with ASME codes and product application
-   Proficient in the use of 3D design software such as the AutoDesk Suite of products (e.g. AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and Vault)
-   Familiarity with piping stress analysis and pipe support design preferred but not required
