### Energy & Industrial Business Unit EHS Lead

**Location:** Project / Office Based with Regular Travel

### The Opportunity

Designer Group is seeking an experienced **Energy & Industrial Business Unit EHS Lead** to provide Environmental, Health & Safety leadership across our Energy & Industrial operations.

Working closely with Business Unit leadership, project teams and site-based EHS professionals, you will be responsible for driving consistent EHS standards across a portfolio of complex **energy, industrial, engineering and M&E projects**.

This is a senior EHS leadership role focused on **operational safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, safety culture and continuous improvement** across the Business Unit.

You will act as a key EHS partner to operational leadership, ensuring Designer Group's EHS management systems, policies and standards are effectively implemented throughout project mobilisation, construction, installation, commissioning and delivery.

The role reports directly to the **Business Unit Director of Operations**, with escalation to the **Group EHS Manager**.

As Designer Group continues to expand its Energy & Industrial operations, this role offers the opportunity to influence EHS performance across a significant portfolio of complex engineering projects.

**Key Responsibilities**

As **Energy & Industrial Business Unit EHS Lead**, you will:

-   Provide EHS leadership across Designer Group's Energy & Industrial project portfolio.
-   Manage, coordinate and support project-based EHS professionals across the Business Unit.
-   Partner with Business Unit and project leadership to ensure EHS requirements are fully integrated into operational and project delivery.
-   Implement, administer and continuously improve Designer Group EHS management systems, policies and programmes.
-   Ensure project and country-specific EHS procedures comply with applicable legislation, regulations, client requirements and company standards.
-   Support operational teams in identifying, assessing and controlling risks associated with complex engineering, construction and industrial activities.
-   Promote proactive risk management throughout mobilisation, construction, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
-   Lead and support incident investigations, after-action reviews, root-cause analysis and corrective-action processes.
-   Act as a senior EHS point of contact for clients, regulatory authorities and other external stakeholders.
-   Support client and regulatory inspections, internal and external audits, notifications, presentations and reporting requirements.
-   Monitor EHS performance across the Business Unit and provide leadership with relevant KPIs, trends, leading indicators and recommendations.
-   Develop and implement EHS continuous improvement initiatives.
-   Coordinate and support statutory and non-statutory inspections across the project portfolio.
-   Identify EHS training, competency and knowledge-retention requirements across projects and operational teams.
-   Support the development and delivery of EHS training programmes.
-   Provide EHS input into project tendering, mobilisation, planning and execution.
-   Support the development, review and approval of **Project Execution Plans, SOPs, RAMS and dynamic risk assessments**.
-   Work with project teams to ensure robust controls are in place for high-risk activities.
-   Use leading and lagging indicators, data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
-   Support health, wellbeing, occupational safety and environmental programmes across the Business Unit.
-   Work closely with construction, engineering, commissioning, commercial, procurement and project management teams to integrate EHS requirements into project delivery.
-   Engage with subcontractors and supply-chain partners to maintain consistent EHS standards.
-   Represent Designer Group professionally with clients, project partners, regulatory bodies and local communities.
-   Participate in relevant professional organisations on behalf of Designer Group.

### Key Areas of EHS Focus

The role will support EHS management across complex Energy & Industrial activities which may include:

-   Mechanical and electrical installation.
-   HV and LV electrical systems.
-   Energy infrastructure and utility projects.
-   Industrial plant and process environments.
-   Equipment installation and commissioning.
-   Lifting and crane operations.
-   Temporary works.
-   Working at height.
-   Confined-space activities.
-   Permit-to-work systems.
-   Isolation and **LOTO** procedures.
-   Energisation and commissioning activities.
-   Contractor and subcontractor management.
-   Interface management between construction and operational environments.
-   High-risk work planning and control.
-   Environmental compliance and management.

## Requirements

We are looking for an experienced EHS professional with strong construction, engineering and industrial safety knowledge who can operate effectively across multiple projects and stakeholder groups.

You should bring:

-   **5+ years' EHS leadership experience** within construction, engineering, energy, industrial or related project environments.
-   A recognised **third-level qualification in Environmental Health & Safety** or a related discipline.
-   Recognised professional EHS accreditations or certifications, such as **IOSH**.
-   Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and industrial construction activities and associated risks.
-   Experience supporting complex **energy, industrial, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing or engineering projects**.
-   Experience managing, mentoring or coordinating project-based EHS professionals.
-   Strong knowledge of applicable Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
-   Experience with **ISO 45001 and ISO 14001** management systems and certification processes.
-   Strong incident investigation, root-cause analysis and corrective-action experience.
-   Strong leadership, coaching and stakeholder-management capability.
-   Experience developing and reviewing **RAMS, risk assessments, SOPs and project EHS documentation**.
-   Experience working with high-risk construction and engineering activities.
-   Experience using EHS performance indicators, metrics and reporting to drive improvement.
-   Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-   Good IT capability and experience working with digital construction or EHS platforms.
-   Full clean driving licence.
-   Ability and willingness to travel regularly between Designer Group project locations.
