We are seeking a **Workshop Engineer** to carry out component-level repairs, servicing and testing on a wide range of electronic, electro-mechanical and PC-based equipment within a major public transport technology programme. The role sits within the Service Management (Workshop) organisation and forms part of the workshop delivery structure led by the Workshop Manager, with dedicated Workshop Team Leads.

**Key duties include:**

-   Carry out component-level repair, servicing, testing and fault diagnosis of a wide range of electronic, electro-mechanical and PC-based equipment, in accordance with approved repair procedures, technical standards and workshop instructions.

-   Ensure full compliance with applicable quality standards, repair procedures, health and safety requirements, security rules and environmental practices within the workshop, including proper handling of materials, tools and workshop waste in line with local procedures.

-   Accurately update and maintain all records of work carried out in the maintenance management tool, including repair details, test results, parts and materials used, asset status, observations and any other required maintenance data.

-   Report completed work, technical findings, recurring issues and practical improvement suggestions to the Workshop Team Lead, supporting continuous improvement of repair quality, turnaround time and technical consistency.

-   Escalate complex technical issues, non-conformities, repeat failures or operational concerns to the Workshop Team Lead in a timely manner, providing clear diagnostic information and relevant evidence to support resolution.

-   Liaise with workshop supervision and other support functions, as required, to resolve technical queries, support workflow continuity and ensure correct coordination of repair and maintenance activities.

-   Contribute to workshop performance by working to agreed turnaround expectations, maintaining technical compliance and supporting the achievement of quality and service performance targets.

-   Support upgrades to existing equipment and the introduction, testing or rollout of new equipment when required by the business or workshop management.

-   Perform assigned duties in a disciplined, systematic and traceable manner, ensuring that all maintenance activity is properly documented and that the work area, tools and materials are maintained in a safe and orderly condition.

-   Undertake other duties assigned by management, as reasonably required by business needs.

## Requirements

**Required Skills,** **Knowledge and Experience:**

-   Previous experience in an electronic/electro-mechanical repair or production/test environment.

-   Extensive experience in the use of hand tools and soldering equipment, including through-hole and SMD (surface mount device) work.

-   Experience in the use of electronic test and fault-finding equipment, such as DVM (digital voltmeter), oscilloscopes and software tools.

-   Ability to communicate well at all levels and work effectively as part of a team or unsupervised when required.

-   Ability to perform to targets and deadlines, with a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving and fault finding.

-   Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft packages and database systems.

-   Strong work ethic, proactive attitude and adaptability to support a wide range of technical tasks.

**Education and Qualifications:**

-   Essential: ONC level qualification (or equivalent) in an electronic / PC-based discipline, or an electro-mechanical / mechanical discipline, as required for the vacancy.
-   Desirable: HNC or HND (or equivalent) in a related engineering discipline matching the vacancy.

**Desirable Experience:**

-   Previous experience with automatic revenue collection equipment and passenger control systems and hardware.
-   Some knowledge of software activities such as loading software or operating systems, retrieving log files, configuring software parameters on repaired modules, and analysing logs.
-   Knowledge of ISO9001.
-   Understanding of ESD protection (Electro Static Discharge).
-   Experience of PAT testing for electrical safety.
