## Description

**About the role**

GRESB is an industry-led organisation on a mission to provide the financial industry with standardised, validated ESG data on real assets. Investors and managers use that data to allocate capital, and we are changing how we deliver it: from an annual benchmark and static reports towards a continuous, data-first platform. Our data should be easy to access and analyse in both human and automated workflows, instead of arriving once a year as a report.

In practice that means consolidating our assessments onto one platform rather than several stacks, with a governed and scalable data model beneath them. It also means publishing our datasets in machine-readable form, so customers can query them and build them into their own workflows.

This only works if the data underneath is trustworthy and well defined, for the people using it and for the systems and AI reading it. We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build that foundation.

**What you will do**

You will join our data team, working closely with the Product team. The work is currently split between keeping the annual benchmark running and building the platform that replaces it with something continuous, so you would touch both legacy and greenfield.

- Build and maintain data pipelines and service that support our yearly evolving standards and methodology, and re-architect or decommission the ones that do not.
- Shape the data models and schemas beneath our products, and the serving layers that expose them to reporting and analytics.
- Own data quality and reliability through validation, automated testing and production monitoring, to ensure issues are caught as early as possible, never first by the people consuming the data.
- Make our data discoverable and documented, including definitions, lineage and pipeline logic, so the teams and systems that consume it can self-serve.
- Guide architecture decisions in the areas you own: frame the options and the trade-offs, and bring them to a decision the team commits to. Help raise engineering standards through design and code review.

Our stack: Python (pandas, polars and fastapi), Parquet on S3 with Athena, Postgres, kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD and GitHub Actions. Around it sit a Rails portal, Java application services, and LLM validation on Bedrock.

## Requirements

**What we are looking for**

- A track record of building and running data pipelines and services in production, seeing them through end-to-end, and iterating on your approach as lessons emerge.
- Strong Python and SQL, with enough data analysis skill to interrogate a dataset and answer a question with it.
- Hands-on experience running systems in a cloud environment: infrastructure as code, containers, and continuous deployment.
- A solid grounding in data modelling and warehouse design.
- The ability to take an ambiguous problem from diagnosis through to something shipped.
- Comfort with context-heavy work. Our standards and methodology are intricate, and doing this job well means carrying a lot of domain detail.
- A habit of turning agentic tools into workflows the rest of the team adopts, with the judgement to catch what they get wrong.

If your experience doesn't map exactly onto this list but covers similar ground, apply anyway.

And in how you work:

- **You solve it at the system level.** You can tell a recurring bug apart from the design that keeps producing it, and you bring the design forward with the impact and a proposal.
- **You lift the people around you.** You mentor others through complex work, review carefully, and turn what you learn into patterns the team keeps using. You expect the same scrutiny of your own work.

Experience in sustainability, real estate, or financial services is a plus.

## Benefits

**What we offer**

- Impact you can point at. Sustainability is what GRESB exists for, and the data you build is what investors use to judge the buildings and infrastructure they own.
- Projects that shape where sustainability data goes next, the room to own them and to change how we work, and a yearly hackathon where you build your own idea.
- AI tooling provided company-wide, with the expectation that you use it. Agentic tooling is how this team works rather than a pilot someone is running on the side.
- An open, international culture and team that enjoys each other's company, with regular socials and activities.
- A competitive salary that matches your skills and experience + holiday allowance paid monthly
- Annual leave of 25 days + 2 volunteering days off per year
- Company pension plan
- Free public transport to and from the Amsterdam office
- Free and healthy daily catered office lunch
- A generous annual professional development + one-time home office budget
