## Description

Education Perfect is an EdTech platform designed to empower educators and amplify their impact in the classroom. We enable teachers to personalise learning at scale with a range of powerful learning, assessment, and insights tools, helping them and their students reach their full potential.

We’re looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who wants to shape how a serious EdTech platform is built and run. EP serves over 1.4 million students and 2,500+ schools across AU, NZ, and Canada with a scalable, distributed platform on AWS, deploying continuously to production. You’ll own reliability, security, and operability of the platform, set technical standards across the engineering org, and embed AI throughout the DevOps and security workflow. No direct reports,  your leverage comes from the systems you build, the standards you set, and the engineers you coach.

On the technical side, you’ll operate EP’s AWS cloud infrastructure, run and improve GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, build observability and incident response capability, and develop self-service tooling and reusable infrastructure patterns. You’ll design and enforce security controls to support compliance with ISO 27001 and GDPR, and embed AI across the DevOps and security workflow, from automated code analysis to policy enforcement and observability.

At EP, you’ll work on projects that have a real impact on students’ lives, with the freedom, support, and resources to develop your skills and grow your career.

**What you will do**

Infrastructure & Build Tooling

- Improve EP’s developer experience through workflow automation, self-service tooling, reusable infrastructure patterns, and careful standardisation.
- Maintain and enhance EP’s GitHub Actions-based build and deployment pipelines to increase engineering productivity and product quality.
- Ensure cost-effective use of third-party providers, such as AWS, Datadog, and Akamai. Monitor and optimize cloud spend.
- Develop and enforce high technical standards across the engineering team for performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.

System Architecture

- Create high-level infrastructure designs that address the ongoing scalability, reliability, security, and performance needs of the platform.
- Collaborate across teams and functions to help define our architecture and technical roadmap.
- Help design and enforce security controls to ensure EP adheres to key compliance frameworks, such as ISO 27001 and GDPR.

Site Reliability

- Own the end-to-end availability, reliability, security and performance of the EP platform.
- Develop automation, observability, and processes to keep EP highly available, scalable, and resilient.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
- Educate and empower software engineers to think operationally when designing services, and to operate what they build.

General

- Embed AI into the development toolchain, including AI-powered security reviews, code analysis, policy enforcement, and observability. Leverage AI to drive personal and team productivity.
- Foster a healthy and collaborative culture, in line with EP’s core values.
- Make pragmatic decisions and sensible tradeoffs informed by high-level business objectives.

**About you**

- Deep experience designing, developing, and operating cloud software and build tooling at scale.
- Deep experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and infrastructure as code.
- Experience building continuous deployment pipelines, automated quality and compliance gates, and AI workflow automation.
- A strong security mindset, experience with industry-standard security standards and frameworks, and familiarity with DevSecOps practices.
- Experience leading work and continuously improving on observability, logging, alerting, and incident response.
- Experience working in a distributed, cross-functional engineering team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage risk, ambiguity, dependencies, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to align engineering work with high-level organisational goals.
- A keen sense of ownership and accountability.

Equitable opportunities, growth, and development lie at the heart of how we work at EP. We understand that not all applicants may possess all of these attributes so if you think you have what it takes, but are not sure you check every box, we would love to still hear from you!
