## Description

We are seeking an experienced **Plant Labelling Officer** to support the accurate identification, documentation, labelling, mapping, and interpretation of living plant collections within a Botanic Garden environment.

The role will be responsible for maintaining accurate plant labels, collection records, databases, mapping systems, and visitor-facing botanical information. The successful candidate will work closely with **botanists, horticulturists, curators, and other technical specialists** to ensure plant identities and collection information remain accurate, consistent, and up to date.

### Key Responsibilities

-   Create, install, inspect, update, and maintain plant labels across indoor and outdoor collections.
-   Ensure labels include accurate scientific names, common names, family information, geographic origin, accession details, and other relevant information.
-   Verify botanical nomenclature and taxonomy using recognised botanical references.
-   Conduct regular audits to identify missing, damaged, outdated, duplicated, or inaccurate labels.
-   Coordinate the correction and replacement of plant labels.
-   Work with botanists, horticulturists, curators, and other specialists to verify plant identification.
-   Maintain consistency between physical labels, accession records, databases, maps, and collection-management systems.
-   Manage and update plant-record databases and maintain accurate records of plant accessions, locations, provenance, movements, replacements, and losses.
-   Support plant accessioning and deaccessioning activities.
-   Maintain plant collection mapping systems and conduct field verification of plant locations.
-   Support the integration of plant records with **GIS, digital mapping, and collection-management systems**.
-   Develop and maintain botanical interpretation and visitor-facing information materials.
-   Translate technical botanical and horticultural information into clear and accessible content.
-   Support digital plant-identification tools, QR-code systems, mobile applications, interactive maps, and digital collection platforms.
-   Conduct quality-control reviews of physical and digital plant information.
-   Support plant inventories and collection audits.
-   Maintain appropriate data-quality, backup, and version-control practices.

## Requirements

-   Bachelor's degree in **Horticulture, Botany, Plant Sciences, Plant Taxonomy**, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
-   **Minimum 5+ years of relevant professional experience** in horticulture, botanical collections, plant identification, education, or technical capacity-building.
-   Strong knowledge of **plant identification, taxonomy, nomenclature, and classification**, with the ability to identify plants using morphological characteristics, botanical references, and taxonomic keys.
-   Proven experience in **plant labelling, living-collection documentation, accessioning, provenance, and collection management**.
-   Experience managing **plant databases, electronic records, GIS, mapping systems, and digital collection-management platforms**.
-   Strong research, information-verification, data-quality, and quality-control skills, with excellent attention to detail.
-   Experience developing and delivering **horticulture training programmes**, including practical, hands-on training.
-   Experience developing **training materials, technical guides, manuals, presentations, and educational resources** related to horticulture.
-   Experience assessing training needs, evaluating competency, and supporting internships, apprenticeships, vocational training, or work-based learning programmes.
-   Experience conducting horticulture workshops, demonstrations, or community-engagement programmes.
-   Ability to translate technical botanical and horticultural information into clear, engaging, visitor-facing content.
-   Experience working collaboratively with **botanists, horticulturists, curators, researchers, educational institutions, and other technical specialists**.
-   Familiarity with **digital plant-identification tools, QR-code systems, mobile applications, and interactive mapping** is advantageous.
-   Previous experience in a **botanic garden, public garden, horticulture institution, nursery, educational institution, or comparable environment** is preferred.
-   Strong written communication, technical documentation, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
-   Professional training or educational delivery experience in **English and Arabic** is preferred.
