**The Role**

**This is a 6 month, full time paid internship.** India Safe Water Program is building a lightweight, purpose-built operations management platform to coordinate field and Head Quarter activity — similar in spirit to tools like Zoho or a lightweight CRM, but tailored to our program's workflows. The platform will be used to plan and track field visits, route approvals, manage vendor coordination, and give Head Quarter real-time visibility into activity status across the program.

You will report to the Senior Officer, Safe Water Operations and work directly with the Data, Survey & Operations team to design, build, and deploy this application from the ground up. You will get hands-on ownership of a real production system used daily by program staff — not a simulated project. This is a strong opportunity for someone early in their development career to build full-stack and DevOps experience in a live operational environment.

**What You Will Build**

The platform will support the following core modules:

- Field activity planning — scheduling and logging of field visits
- Approval workflows — multi-stage sign-off on planned and completed activities
- Activity tracker — status views for pending, in-process, and completed items
- Role-based administration — adding/removing users, assigning and revoking roles and permissions
- Secure user login and authentication
- Vendor coordination section — vendor-facing activity and status updates
- Head Quarter dashboard — consolidated view of activity across all field locations
- Follow-up and completion tracking, with basic notifications/reminders

**Responsibilities**

- Build responsive front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript (React or another framework, as agreed with the team).
- Develop REST APIs using Node.js and Express, with clean, well-documented JSON contracts.
- Design and manage relational data models in MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Implement authentication and role-based authorization for different user types (Head Quarter, field, vendor, admin).
- Build activity dashboards and status visualizations using Chart.js and Bootstrap.
- Deploy and maintain the application on AWS (EC2, IAM, Security Groups, S3).
- Configure and manage the production server using Linux fundamentals — SSH, file permissions, and process management.
- Set up Nginx as a reverse proxy with HTTPS, and manage the app process using PM2.
- Use Git and GitHub for version control, with clean commit practices and basic code review.
- Support basic logging and monitoring so issues in production can be identified and traced.
- Document setup, deployment, and handover steps so the application can be maintained after the internship ends.

## Requirements

**Essential**

- Completed a degree in Computer Science IT, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught/bootcamp experience)
- Project experience on the following platforms

1. HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript
2. Bootstrap and Chart.js
3. REST API design and JSON
4. Node.js and Express
5. MySQL or PostgreSQL
6. Git and GitHub
7. Linux administration/MAC (SSH, file permissions, processes)

**Desirable**

- Working knowledge of AWS — EC2, IAM, Security Groups, and S3
- Experience with Nginx, HTTPS/SSL configuration, and PM2
- Familiarity with React or another modern front-end framework
- Understanding of authentication/authorization patterns (JWT, sessions, role-based access control)
- Awareness of basic performance optimization and application logging/monitoring practices
- A prior academic, freelance, or personal project involving a deployed full-stack application
